87 year old woman lost life savings to scammer—but she wouldn’t let them get away.

The supposed officer returned to the line, giving Marie detailed instructions on where to transfer the money. Overwhelmed by fear for her grandson, she followed them without hesitation. With a heavy heart but a flicker of relief, she transferred the $10,000, praying silently that this would help Danny and bring him home safely.
Once the transfer was complete, she sank into her chair, her body trembling as a flood of emotions washed over her. For the next hour, she paced the living room, her mind consumed by worry and dread.
Nearly two hours later, the familiar sound of a key turning in the lock broke the silence. The front door creaked open, and there stood Danny, smiling as he stepped inside. “Grandma, I’m home!” he called cheerfully.
Marie froze, her face paling. She stared at him, heart pounding wildly. “Danny?” she whispered, barely able to speak.
Danny frowned, noticing the fear in her eyes. “Grandma, what’s wrong?” He moved closer, concern etched deeply on his face.
Her legs gave out, and she collapsed onto the couch. “I was so worried, Danny. I’m just glad you’re okay,” she said, voice shaking with relief. Reaching out, she touched his arm as if to confirm he was really there.
“What do you mean? Of course I’m okay,” Danny replied, bewildered by her reaction.
Seeing the tears in her eyes and the pale fear on her face, his confusion deepened. “What’s going on? They said you were arrested,” Marie repeated, her voice trembling as the painful truth began to dawn on her.
Her lips quivered, and tears spilled down her cheeks as the fear twisted into raw hurt. “Arrested? What are you talking about? I just got back from work,” Danny said, concern flooding his voice.
Kneeling before her, he searched her eyes. “Grandma, who called you? What exactly did they say?”
“They called me… They had your voice. Said you needed bail money. I had to empty out my savings for this…” Marie’s voice cracked as sobs escaped, her grief mingling with disbelief.
