87 year old woman lost life savings to scammer—but she wouldn’t let them get away.

It wasn’t often Marie received calls these days—especially from unfamiliar numbers—and a flicker of apprehension stirred within her. Yet, something urged her to answer. “Hello?” she said softly, her voice warm and steady.

“Good evening, ma’am. This is Officer Daniels from the local police department,” came the professional, authoritative reply. Marie’s heart skipped a beat. “I’m afraid I have some unfortunate news. Your grandson, Danny, has been arrested.”

Her heart sank, swirling with confusion and fear. “Arrested?” she echoed, her voice trembling. “There must be some mistake. Danny is a good boy. What happened?” She waited, every passing second pounding the reality into her.

“Ma’am, he was involved in an incident, and unfortunately, we must keep him in custody until the matter is resolved,” the officer explained gently. “We understand this is distressing, and we want to help get this sorted as soon as possible.”

Before Marie could fully grasp it, the officer continued, “I have your grandson here. He wants to speak with you.” Her stomach tightened as a familiar voice crackled through the line.

“Grandma, it’s me—Danny,” came the shaky, desperate voice. “I’m in trouble, Grandma. I need your help. Please.” Tears welled in Marie’s eyes. “Danny? What happened, my dear?” she asked, voice breaking.

“Grandma, I can’t explain much right now,” he said, urgency thick in his tone. “But they said if you could post bail, I could get out tonight. It’s $10,000. Can you do that for me? I promise I’ll pay you back.”

Marie’s hands trembled as she gripped the phone. She had some savings—money she’d been setting aside for Danny’s future. If this wasn’t an emergency, she didn’t know what was. “Of course, sweetheart,” she whispered. “I’ll do whatever it takes.”
